The Presidio was a military post for more than 200 years before becoming a national park in 1994 and boasts more than 500 historic structures featuring several of the most important architectural styles of the last century. In 1962, the Presidio was named a National Historic Landmark District. One of the exciting parts of being a Presidio resident is knowing that lease revenues go toward preserving a historic national park.
The Presidio Residences place an incredible variety of recreational opportunities at your doorstep. Miles of hiking trails and pedestrian paths traverse the park, providing easy access to the waterfront as well as to the parks most picturesque and serene natural areas. Cyclists of all ages can take advantage of the park's extensive network of bike routes. In addition, Crissy Field is widely known as one of the premier windsurfing spots on the West Coast. Other recreational amenities include tennis courts, an 18-hole public golf course, playgrounds and athletic fields, gymnasiums, a swimming pool, picnic areas, waterfront parks, campgrounds and a bowling alley.
The Presidio Residences are in 21 neighborhoods interspersed throughout the National Park. They offer a unique opportunity for a small-town neighborhood atmosphere in the heart of an exciting urban area. Though residents have convenient access to San Francisco and the greater Bay Area, the Presidio is a self-sufficient community with its own law enforcement, fire protection and emergency medical services. Restaurants, a U.S. Post Office and other services are located within the park.
